Hi! I’m John Thomas Nyakundi (J.T.). Thank you for taking the time to find out a bit more about me.
I am a consultant and director of football with experience ranging from grassroots football to the elite level. My background in sports science and coaching has enabled me to gain experience in a large chunk of what makes up the football ecosystem – coaching & recruitment, performance & medical, management, and coach education. This, together with my deep involvement in a variety of other sports (rugby, basketball & strength training), has come to inform the integrated, science-based approach I use to develop people and put teams together.
My passion lies in understanding why the best performers in the world are the best at what they do. This started out as a desire to become a better athlete and later grew in my quest to help the athletes I worked with become more competitive.
My journey now is about trying to figure out the principles behind high performance to help people live better, work more efficiently, and feel more fulfilled.
High performance (to me) consists of 5 things: deep knowledge of and belief in your direction, the right feedback channels, effective energy management, and the ability (and space) to fail forward – all underpinned by the maintenance of high standards and expectations. I believe everything is high performance because these 5 traits can be found in successful people and institutions everywhere – life, business, and sport.
I take a deep dive into these 5 principles (+ everything else high performance) in my blog as I try to figure out how to more effectively implement them into my coaching and life in general. Ultimately, I would like to develop a deeper understanding of how high-performance environments are created and maintained (and to one day use that knowledge at the highest levels of sport as a coach and sporting director)
Outside football, I am extremely curious about aviation, automotive engineering, urban design, and military operations. I am also very active – you can find me weightlifting, training for my first marathon & triathlon, or playing touch rugby with my mates.
I am always open to new challenges or just having a coffee and conversation. Reach out to jt@johntnyakundi.com to connect!
